The APA Board shapes the program year — selecting cohort members, guiding monthly sessions, and growing the alumni community.
Judd Devermont is an Operating Partner at Kupanda Capital, Head of Market Entry at Oath Africa, and a board member at Fraym. He previously served as Special Assistant to President Biden and Senior Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council (NSC) from 2021 to 2024; U.S. National Intelligence Officer for Africa from 2015 to 2018; and Director for African Affairs at the NSC from 2011 to 2013. Judd was also the Director of the Africa Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies from 2018 to 2021.
The Board is composed of alumni from recent cohorts who volunteer their time to keep the program running and to help shape what the next cohort experiences.
They review applications, lead monthly discussions, coordinate events and social gatherings, manage the program's voice on social media, and shepherd an alumni community that now spans more than 180 emerging Africa-focused policy professionals.
Board roles rotate annually and are open to alumni of the program. Reach out if you'd like to learn more about the commitment and timeline.
